Jason was born in Casselton Beach; a small town in New South Wales, Australia. studied political science while on Earth and then worked for an office supply company, but a summoning spell gone awry in a magical alternate reality triggered a magical phenomenon that offered him a chance to enter into that reality.

Summary[]

Volume One[]

Jason was summoned on accident by Landemere Vane, due to a summoning ritual gone awry. Jason had woken up inside a hedge maze with mysterious racial powers, but no hair or clothes. After some misadventures, he was knocked out by Dougall, who was using a shovel, and shoved in a cage next to Gary, Rufus, Anisa, and Farrah. After escaping from the cages, they confront the blood cult members, with Jason killing high rank cultists using gold rank spirit coins.

They realize the cultists were up to summoning an apocalypse monster, a world ender called a Sanguine Horror. They also realize that, by killing the cultists, they had essentially finished the requirements for the summoning, and end up fighting a sanguine horror. However, since it had been just born and was still low rank, they are able to kill it.

The group travel to the Vane family estate, where they find one of their teammates, Anisa, who is their healer and member of the church of purity. She is not a permanent member of the team, and only there for experience.

Jason then ranks up to Iron by using the essences of Blood and Sin, alongside the Dark essence he already consumed, getting the confluence essence of Doom. He awakens a familiar power that allows him to summon a sanguine horror, and summons one, calling it Colin, or Team Colin, as it is a swarm type monster.

During this time, the rest of the blood cultists run away, presumably after seeing their leaders get killed. After getting as much information from the estate as they can, Jason’s group leave the estate in the hands of the church of purity, traveling across the desert. Jason expresses his suspicion and dislike of Anisa, as her whereabouts and situation during their kidnapping are strange. However, the rest of the team think it implausible, although they agree on their dislike of the woman, and move on.

In the first village in the desert, Jason encounter Shabs that come out of an astral space that fuels the town’s oasis, and was forced to fight them. With the help of a local guard, Hiram, they were able to slay the Shabs and even able to find a water essence for Hiram's granddaughter. After only being in the town for a day, Jason manages to become very well-liked by almost everyone. Rufus then had him fight some monsters in order to get a better understanding of his abilities.

Rufus agrees to train Jason personally as part of their gratitude for him saving their lives. According to the other members of the group, this is a very big deal as Rufus is a member of the Remore family, who are famous for their prestigious academy that train even kings and queens. The other members of the group join in, with Gary training Jason’s movement skills and Farrah training his aura and magical theory.

Soon, Jason temporarily departs from the team for his registration into the Adventure Society, but makes his way through the delta slowly, curing the poor of afflictions and the like for free. Jason enters Greenstone with Jory, an alchemist, and promptly gets beaten up by two acolytes of Healer, as they try to vandalize Jory’s clinic for heresy. Jason then finally goes to register with the Adventure Society, with members such as Humphrey Geller. He passes the test, and becomes a one-star iron rank adventurer.

After Jason registers, and after befriending Humphrey and Gabrielle, he starts training with Rufus' team behind Jory's clinic. After training for a while he gets his martial art skill book Way of the Reaper: Five Forms I as part of the team’s gratitude towards him.

Volume Three[]

Jason is captured by Cole Silva and Lucian Lamprey for protecting Sophie from their clutches. He is kidnapped and isolated from his friends, while being tortured by Silva during that period. Lamprey helps in the kidnapping itself, but makes sure the deed isn’t traced back to him, as he is already under suspicion.

Jason’s friends learn about his kidnapping as Jason’s interface power is suppressed and their party link is severed. They divide into different groups, trying to find any trace of where Jason might be, and who might have kidnapped him. Neil and Clive go to the Mercer family and confront Thalia Mercer about the whereabouts and intentions of her son, Thadwick, who has hated Jason from the beginning. Belinda and Sophie search through the criminal organizations of Old City, using their old connections. Rufus goes to Adris Dorgan, asking about Jason and the possible culprits. Danielle Geller and her son, Humphrey, confront Lucian Lamprey; ultimately threatening him. However, none of their efforts come up with tangible proof or evidence of Jason’s kidnapping, nor his location.

After hanging Jason up, Cole Silva makes one of his men, Killian Lawrence, use a Star Seed on Jason using ritual magic. However, due to the lack ambient mana in Greenstone, and also Jason’s own strength of will, it takes a lot more time than expected for Jason’s body to be taken over by the Builder. And yet, as the Great Astral Being’s power is too strong, his body is taken over, with Jason’s screams subsiding and his body hanging limp, while the fight for his soul continues. Killian explains the soul itself is inviolable, even by beings such as the Builder, and so Jason has to willingly succumb to the immense torture that the Builder does directly to his soul. Jason’s mind is stripped away during the harsh torture directly to his soul, leaving only his core defiant self that doesn’t yield to the Builder.

During that time, Silva finds out that one of his men on lookout, Jerrick, has killed his partner and headed towards the city, presumably to alert Jason’s friends of his location. There, Kilian backstabs Silva, revealing that he has already taken as much from his organization as he can, and leaves with Silva unconscious.

As the ritual wasn’t provided with the power needed, Jason’s connection to the Builder is severed. His familar, Colin, who had been the only familiar present, uses all of its power to eject the star seed from his body, becoming dormant for a while. If not for Jason’s peculiar physical structure for being an outworlder, he would have died long ago. However Jason survives, gaining consciousness, eventually escaping outside, where he finds the unconscious body of Silva. Soon after, he spots skimmers coming his way, filled with his friends who had heard Jason’s location from Jerrick.

Jason is safely returned to Old City, but suffers from trauma. His soul is scarred from the experience, changing his aura signature, while it also upgraded Jason’s understanding of the soul and its connection to aura. His aura control and strength becomes immensely strong, alongside being able to use it as an attack directly on the soul of others. Gary, a peak bronze ranker on the cusp of silver, comments that Jason’s aura strength might be even stronger than his own, who is yet Iron rank.

Jason’s friends soon find and gather the culprits, Silva and Lamprey, where they are incarcerated by the Adventure Society. After some time, their fate is sealed for skeletal suppression, which according to Clive, is like having a suppression collar directly engraved upon the skeleton, effectively deleting all magical ability permanently.

Specialization[]

Affliction Skirmisher:[]

An affliction skirmisher is best when operating alone, they can work in teams but are a bad fit for conventional ones and are a bad choice to build a team around. They do best in misfit groups that focus on versatility. For an Affliction Skirmisher mentality is key. Affliction skirmishers are used to balancing on a sharp edge, so when things go wrong, they know how to handle it.

“Everyone at this table knows what to do if you find yourself up against a traditional affliction specialist.”

“You get past the team and hit them,” Ledev said. “Then they’re done.”

“Exactly,” Trenchant agreed. “You know what I'd do if I was up against an affliction skirmisher? I'd run like the goddess of Pain was chasing me. I wouldn't stand and fight unless I had a full team with me and, even then, I'd want a damn good reason. It's common knowledge that you have to kill an affliction specialist before they dose you or you'll die even after you kill them. Skirmishers don't die easy.”

“So, in short,” Vesper said, “they're evil bastards.”
